A little more about me...
Unlike some, I did not always know that I wanted to be a nurse. I grew up in East Tennessee among a family of health care professionals. My father is a gastroenterologist and my mother is a nurse (shown in family picture above with myself and younger brother, David). At 18, I was in denial of my love for people and health when I arrived at Samford University in the fall of 2007. Beginning as a Psychology major I thought I wanted to pursue a career in mentoring and analyzing the brain. Sophomore year I decided to stop ignoring my instincts, and change to nursing. Little did I know that not only would nursing provide a wonderful and challenging career, but so much more.
After moving to Birmingham as a freshman, I never moved back home. I realized how much I thrive in discovering new experiences on my own and pursuing new people and relationships. Currently at 23, I have lived in Birmingham almost 5 years and continue to enjoy the opportunities that a city like Birmingham can offer. Since 2007, I have learned so much about myself and continually strive to search out new ventures that challenge my body and my mind. By doing so I have continued to enjoy my passion for traveling the world and visiting new places with my friends and family.
Within the last two years I have also been blessed to be able to continue a life long hobby of photography, while at the same time discovering a passion for emergency and trauma nursing, as well as an interest women's health. Looking for a new approach to my fitness routine, I discovered Pure Barre located down the road from my apartment. After taking my first class in the summer of 2010, I was enamored with the technique and foundational values Pure Barre represented. While continuing to take classes, I completed my OB/Childbearing Family course in the fall of 2010, and Labor and Delivery elective preceptorship in January 2011. In February of 2011, I applied to become a Pure Barre instructor at the Birmingham studio in Homewood, AL. I have never felt more excitement about where I am in my life and the possibilities that both nursing and Pure Barre can provide to women. Eventually I would love to integrate fitness and nursing in women's health and would love to be able to serve women, children, and their families in the holistic mindset that nurses are able to provide.
Nursing has provided me with the knowledge and strength to pursue my goals and I am excited to see where a career in healthcare will take me. With 1 1/2 years of ER nursing experience under my belt, I hope to continue to grow and learn as a nurse, while gaining experience and understanding within the field. Whether in an a clinic or emergent care setting, I intend on using my education and instinctive morals to provide the best care for my patients, their families, and others in my life.
